SOME people can stop smoking by simple willpower and self-belief. Others feel they need some help, such as nicotine replacement, acupuncture or hypnosis. NSW Health says that using a nicotine replacement patch, gum, lozenge or inhaler can double the chances of success, but the best results come from following one of the many quit programs. The Bandolier evidence-based medicine website said people entering smoking cessation trials all wanted to quit smoking.
